Now every fifth year in the land of Erinn games, between the provinces of Meath and Connacht, were held.
One year, a contestant known as Mac Duff brought with him to those games, his two fine sons.
Both mighty champions in their own right were they with each a troop of men.
One of the twain, Rinn by name, placed himself under the protection of Mider of Bray Lethe; speckled horses for his troop, and green cloaks with silver brooches, and shoes with clasps of red bronze, and on everyone of them a collar of gold with a gem worth a newly calved cow set in it.
The other brother, Faber, placed himself under arms for Buan of Connor Hill; black horses with bridle bits of gold for his troop, and grey-blue cloaks with a gold brooch at the breast of each, and a white tunic with crimson stripes, and a coil of bright gold round every man’s neck.
Mider asked could any man be found to fight his champion, Rinn.
“I will go against him,” said Faber.
“Bad news that,” said Rinn, “our meeting will bring only war-cries and battle corpses.”

The Stone reminds me of a show I saw where King Arthur was supposed to have set his foot when he became king…

There are a number of stones where the mark of a king is said to have been left or which were used in the rites of kingmaking.

I saw a show about King Arthur. Basically the story was that Arthur did not pull a sword from that stone, but set his foot in it as he raised the blade and took his oath. 🙂

That is one I haven’t seen.

It was a show called: Expedition Unknown with the host Josh Gates where he searches for King Arthur. I was trying to find the clip. But sometimes videos don’t translate links well across the pond. Most of the Exposition Unknown series/ shows are interesting and somewhat educational.

I’ll have to see if I can find it somewhere, Jules. Thank you.

The last show I watch was about Boudica – an ancient Queen who buried hordes of gold in the landscape on your side of the pond 🙂
Episode 5. Searching across England, Josh Gates unearths a cache of ancient treasure as he chases the legend of Queen Boudica, the legendary Celtic queen who nearly defeated the invading Roman army 2,000 years ago.

Boudicca, a queen of the Iceni, is one of those historical figures every Brit knows a little about, There is a superb statue of her close to the Houses of Parliament.
The Iceni gold that was found was a spectacular find…and the coins themselves intriguing for their design.

In the show Josh was with some of the crew (who had special permission in this one field) that dug up about 15 coins… one of which had the Queen’s husband’s portrait. I saw one of the golden Torc’s that could have been worn by that royal family.

The main hoard was a bit more than fifteen coins 😉 https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/boudiccas-gold-hoard-unearthed-1418237.html

Oh, yes that I understood. I was just mentioning the little hoard that Josh Gates helped to find with the folks he was working with in that particular field. Thanks for the link.
While Josh got special access to see the gold Torc… they did show some of the other artifacts, but not all (I’m guessing…) Now I’m going to look at your link 🙂
