Deborah Jay reviews ‘A Boy Named Rabbit’ by Marcia Meara

My first review of the year was for book #1 in Marcia Meara’s WAKE-ROBIN RIDGE series, and I’m moving right along with my review for book #2, A BOY NAMED RABBIT. I read all four back-to-back, so I will get around to reviewing the others shortly.

A Boy Named Rabbit (Wake-Robin Ridge #2)A Boy Named Rabbit by Marcia Meara
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Sarah and Mac survived a terrifying encounter with a vengeful ghost in book #1 of this series, ending up happy and settled together, but nothing could have prepared them for the way their world is turned topsy-turvy in book #2 by the arrival of an elusive figure on their land. Quite what – or who – is the wild, half-starved boy Sarah sees near the grave of Mac’s son?

The Flickering Present ~ Steve Tanham

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is castlerigg-for-blogaaexp-illust.jpg
Above: Castlerigg Stone Circle, Cumbria… and the mysterious ‘green flame’.
I’ve taken a lot of photographs during the past ten years, but none of them like the one above. Taken at Castlerigg Stone Circle, near Keswick, in December 2018, it depicts what I’ve called the ‘green flame’. The photo was part of a set taken during the ‘Full Circle’ Silent Eye weekend. Sue and Stuart had created the weekend and were doing the detailed write ups. Recently, I was looking back through the files for a photo to use on a blog, when I came across it… and just stared. First reactions. It reminds me of ‘Kirlian’ photography, where subtle electromagnetic fields around living things are photographed using special cameras. But this is a stone circle, not a living thing.

First in this week…

Sadje/ Sadie's avatarKeep it alive

Sue Vincentis the host of Thursday Photo Prompt.

Welcome to this week’s writephoto prompt.#writephoto

This week’s prompt ~ Still

For visually challenged writers, theimage shows a peaceful and still pond, surrounded by green, with sheep grazing in the field beyond. The sky is blue and the branches of the trees are just beginning to show their leaves…

~*~

The dream

The idyllic

All peace and quiet

Life seems to at a pause

Waiting for a play button to be hit

I would love to be here, the stillness and calm

Soothing my mind, the turmoil in my thoughts

I would become one with nature

Leaving all my worries behind

Thursday photo prompt: Still #writephoto

Welcome to this week’s writephoto prompt.#writephoto

You can find all last week’s entries in the weekly round-up, which was published earlier today.

Throughout the week, I will feature as many of the responses here on the Daily Echo as time and space allows, usually in the order in which they are submitted. Please be aware that I tend to schedule reblogs in advance and these spaces fill quickly so an early submission is more likely to be reblogged.

All posts will be featured in the weekly round-up on Thursday, 27th February at 10am GMT, linking back to the original posts of contributors.

Use the image below as inspiration to create a post on your own blog… poetry, prose, humour… light or dark, whatever you choose, as long as it is fairly family-friendly.

Submit your link by noon (GMT)  Wednesday 26th February.

Link back to this post with a pingback (Hugh has an excellent tutorial here)  and/or leave a link in the comments below, to be included in the round-up.

Use the #writephoto hashtag in your title so your posts can be found.

There is no word limit and no style requirements, except that your post must take inspiration from the image and/or the prompt word in the title of the post.

Feel free to use #writephoto logo or include the prompt photo in your post if you wish, or you may replace it with one of your own to illustrate your work.

By participating in the #writephoto challenge, please be aware that your post may be featured as a reblog on this blog and I will link to your post for the round-up each week.

Regular contributors are also welcome to come over as my guest and introduce themselves (click here for details).

Please note: As I do not share my political opinions on this blog, please do not use the challenge as a platform from which to share yours. Party political or racially offensive posts will not be reblogged.

Photo prompt round-up: Storm #writephoto

Beyond the stormclouds

Where hope pierces the darkness

The sun is shining

Even a broken fortress

Can give solace and shelter

The photo for this week’s prompt was taken at the ruins of Kilpeck Castle in Herefordshire. We had gone to Kilpeck to visit its famous Norman church with its spectacular carvings around the door, the west window… and the amazing corbels.

What we had not expected was the quiet serenity of the interior, or its wonderful apse over the place where underground streams are said to meet. Nor had we expected the land to wear so many memories of ancient settlements… or a moated Norman Castle on the very doorstep of the church.

And, as luck would have it, the castle provided us with a perfect setting for a photoshoot for the book we were working on at the time…  Mister Fox and the Green Man , a pictorial retelling of Arthurian tales that feature the Green Knight and Sir Gawain. And one of those pictures provided an early writephoto prompt…

Thank you to everyone who took part, visited or reblogged the posts or left comments for their authors.

A new prompt will be published later today. As always, I will reblog as many contributions as space and time allows as they come in… and all of them will be featured in the round-up next Thursday.

All the posts are listed below, so please click on the links below to read them and leave a comment for the author!

Pingbacks do not always come through… if you have written a post for this challenge and it does not appear in the round-up, please leave a link to your post in the comments and I will add it to the list.

An invitation to writephoto writers…

As there are usually too many contributions to reblog all of them every week, and so that we can get to know their writers, I would like to invite all writephoto writers to come and introduce themselves on the blog as my guest! Click here for details.

Come and join in!

Thank you to all Contributors!
