Crocus #midnighthaiku

Golden promises
Reminder of absent sun
Warming winter hearts

A bitter winds bites. Snow falls like hail, stinging the face and witholding beauty. I shiver in spite of the thick layers, impatient to be home. Even so, I notice the first crocus piercing the grass and tight-furled leaflets braving the frost. Spring is on its way, in spite of the weather.

The dog doesn’t care. She frolics in the fields, jumping in frozen puddles, chasing the trails of the night creatures. For her, each day brings a new dawn and every dawn a new adventure.  Her world is never old. It is always a place of promise.

A lovely poem, Sue. I haven’t seen any crocus blooming here yet, but I am beginning to see the leaves of spring flowers poking through. Our temps are moderating, but who knows what tomorrow will bring. It’s been a crazy year, weatherwise. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could all view the world through Ani’s eyes!
