Quantum theology ~ Tallis Steelyard

Reblogged from Jim Webster, aka Tallis Steelyard:

quantum theology

It has to be said that at the Shrine of Aea in her Aspect as the Personification of Tempered Enthusiasm, our congregation is not burdened with excess wealth. Thus whilst it is Maljie’s duty as temple warden, at every service, to pass amongst them with a collection plate, in case somebody has the urge to give, you can tell her heart isn’t really in it. Our usual assemblage of mendicants live in perpetual penury as it is, and if there is anything on the plate at the end of the service, we normally just add to the sum from out of our reserves and send somebody out to the pie shop with it, on the grounds that that way everybody will get something to eat.

But there are occasions when we have more formal services, with congregations consisting of the great, the good, and the generous. Here Maljie, like any temple warden, is on her mettle. The plate is not actually rattled, nor is it thrust in a threatening manner under the nose of the recalcitrant, but her demeanour hints that these are both options to be explored if the urge to give falters. In this she is merely displaying the benefits of her training, generations of her predecessors have mastered the art, and she is currently training the next generation who will one day succeed her.

#Orkney – St Magnus Cathedral #Scotland ~ Deborah Jay

Reblogged from Deborah Jay:

After crawling into Neolithic tombs on the first morning of our Orkney holiday, the afternoon was time for a shift to a more recent historic site – St Magnus Cathedral.

Of course, ‘recent’ is relative, if you get my drift. Kirkwall’s impressive cathedral was founded in 1137, by the Viking, Earl Rognvald, in honour of his martyred uncle, St Magnus.

Over the centuries, the building has been part of the Roman Catholic Church, the Norwegian Church, the Scottish Episcopal Church, and the Church of Scotland (Presbyterian).

One of the most striking external features of the building is the use of alternating red and yellow sandstone

The End of an Apocalyptic Affair ~ Frank J. Tassone #writephoto

How did we go wrong?

She and I had a perfect love. Oh, how we played God with the first Homo Sapiens. Ah, their luscious suffering and inevitable end! She laughed at their wheezing, fevers, and cold sweats. I sighed as I drew away their last breath.

Millenia after millenia, we danced across the Earth. Plagues were her favorite: how easily they spread, how debilitating they were. I, myself, had no preferences. The end is the end, whatever the cause.

Body and Soul…

*

On the sixth day the earth was delivered of Abadam,

the very image of the Spirit conceived in the likeness of a lump of clay.

*

The Spirit breathed life into the clod and Abadam rose to his feet.

*

His head was level with the divine seat in heaven.

*

As he looked about the celestial abode his huge frame

and radiant countenance, so amazed the angels that

they flocked, trembling to the Spirit: “can there be

two divine powers, one in heaven, the other on earth?”

Spirit y’all? – Stuart France

This week, I will be sharing again a little about the people behind the Silent Eye… this is Stuart’s journey…

‘Our own journey is entirely imaginary: that is its strength.’

– Louis Ferdinand Celine.

I grew up in a religiously tolerant family which knew a thing or two about love and faith. Nan left the Catholic Church to marry Gramps and their eldest son, Uncle Geoff, my mum’s little brother eventually rejoined the Catholic Church in order to marry Aunty Cath, which meant that when we went to spend holidays with Little Geoff and Janet and Mandy we went to their Church with them which was Catholic, and when Little Geoff, Janet and Mandy came to spend the holidays with us they came to our church which was Church of England. It didn’t seem odd to do this and it came as something of a shock to realise that in olden times people had lost their lives for less.

Literary beetles ~ Balroop Singh #writephoto

Gold couldn’t lure us
We are literary beetles
We walk at will, making our own trail.

Destinations don’t hold us
We scatter words that shimmer
The sky is our canvas.

Stealth #midnighthaiku

Unseen and cautious

The stealthy watch from safety

Hoping for a glimpse

Blending into the shadows

The eyes tell the true story
