No ball outside the bathroom door
No muddy trace of canine feet
There is no dog hair on the floor
The house looks shiny, clean and neat.
Outside the pigeons on the fence
Can bill and coo without a fight
No tapping claws upon the wood
To wake me in the dead of night.
No ceaseless begging for a walk,
Nor am I plagued to play at fetch…
It sounds ideal, you must admit,
But honestly? I feel a wretch…
I miss her when she isn’t here
I miss the snores and her demands
I miss her joyous, bounding glee
I miss her wet nose in my hand.
While I must wander north alone,
She’s left me for a better place
With dogs and boys with whom she’ll play…
But I feel that I’m in disgrace.
She went away a day too soon,
And bounded off with walks in store
While I got packed for travelling
And cleaned the house and scrubbed the floor.
But, though the floor stayed nice and clean
Though I could work quite unimpeded,
For the house to feel like home
The small dog’s face is sorely needed.
I’m so sorry Sue. I know she’ll be sorely missed by you but also by your blogging family.

I know what you mean. Even when they’re only gone for a short while, we can’t help but miss them. No matter how we may claim the games of fetch make getting things done harder, and sigh at the fur that somehow managed to get even on the clean clothes, we can’t help but enjoy those games almost as much as they do, and don’t mind the fur really. Hope your trip won’t keep the two of you apart for long.

Hi Sue I feel this too. The moment they are away we miss them terribly. We love our furry friends they are the extra child that never grows up or says mean things they love us unconditionally and we love them.
She will be back soon after your trip and she will drive you mad within the fist half hour.💜💜💜

She won’t take half an hour about it either… like a cork from a bottle she’ll be out the back door chasing crows 😉

Perfectly expressed. Even the annoyances are thought about nostalgically when the pet is no longer around.

I know exactly what you mean Sue. I once cut a holiday short because I missed my dog so much!
Maggie can be a pain, but she’s our pain and my baby. At night, she curls up beside me and is asleep in seconds, content and secure in her little world. I sleep better knowing she’s there too, so it’s not all one sided!

I’d rather have a dog than a clean house, extra time to do what I want and more room in my bed. She will be back home soon and then you can complain about her, with love of course. Have a good trip. xo

I have to admit with shamed face — I could miss mine for a couple of weeks right now, especially the triadic barking. Just the quiet. Especially knowing they were happy elsewhere for a little while. They have been particularly noisy lately and we sit silently waiting until they stop because we can’t hear anything when they bark. Are we bad parents?

No… I feel that way too when she’s been particularly noisy or hairy… but as soon as she isn’t around, it is all too quiet and doesn’t feel right…

Sue, I’m sure it was lonely while Ani was off on “vacation” but you were able to enjoy your travels knowing she was well taken care of and enjoying herself. There’s something to be said about crumbs on the floor and nose-prints on the windows. 💕🤗💕

Amazing how much of a difference that day without her made. Normally she goes the night before me… and I’m glad of the chance to tidy round and get packed. The extra day was way too quiet… 😉 xx
