Photo prompt round-up: Shadows #writephoto

Silence holds secrets
Whispered only to the wind
Ghosts carry rumours
Only speculation lives
The dead will carry no tales

The photo for this week’s prompt was taken at the Dashwood Mausoleum, perched high above the little village of West Wycombe, and beneath which are the notorious Hellfire Caves, the meeting place of Dashwood’s Hellfire Club, whose illustrious membership included John Wilkes, the Earl of Sandwich and Benjamin Franklin.

The village is dominated by the hill which is crowned by an ancient hillfort that may once have been a site of great ritual significance. Today, the strange church whose ancient design was so oddly changed by the enigmatic Sir Francis Dashwood, sits at the centre of the earthwork beside the mausoleum.

My apologies for the delay in reading and commenting on posts this week. I was away for a few days and came back to both a funeral and a birthday…it has been a busy week.

Thank you so much to everyone who took part this week! Once again, there were too many reblog all of the posts, but they are all listed below, so please click on the links to read them and leave a comment for the author! Thank you too, to everyone who reblogged the prompt, round up and the individual resposes!

Pingbacks do not always come through… and I can miss things too, so if you have written a post for this challenge and it does not appear in the round-up, please leave a link to your post in the comments and I will add it to the list.

A new prompt will be published later today. I will reblog as many contributions as space and time allows, as they come in… and all of them will be featured in the round-up on Thursday.

As there are usually too many contributions to reblog all of them every week, and so that we can get to know their writers, I would like to invite all writephoto regulars to come and introduce themselves on the blog as my  guest! ‘Regulars’ does not mean you have to take part every week… Click here for details

Come and join in!

About Sue Vincent

Sue Vincent was a Yorkshire born writer, esoteric teacher and a Director of The Silent Eye. She was immersed in the Mysteries all her life. Sue maintained a popular blog and is co-author of The Mystical Hexagram with Dr G.M.Vasey. Sue lived in Buckinghamshire, having been stranded there due to an accident with a blindfold, a pin and a map. She had a lasting love-affair with the landscape of Albion, the hidden country of the heart. Sue  passed into spirit at the end of March 2021.

An amazing poem from you Sue. Thank you for providing the interesting background information on the photo prompt. I always learn splendid things from you. Your prompts are getting a great response. I do understand that you have a life and may not be able to visit or reblog us all through the week. Grateful that you give us all these challenging prompts.

Thank you, Hélène. Most weeks, I reblog up to four a day as they come in… with my own daily posts, that is about as many as I can do. Most of the time, I read them as they come in too, but one weekend a month I am away and have to catch up when I come home.
