She nearly made me miss this! Can you believe it?
Old or young, two legs or four, we were all puppies once and a little love can heal many things.
I am a rescue pup… Mum and Dad we found looking after each other in a field while me and my litter mates were born.
Pups are cute, but older dogs need loving homes too. My Mum and dad were lucky and found people who would love them. Not all older dogs are so lucky. Lots of older dogs end up in rescues when their older two-legses go for the Long Sleep.
I am an older dog now. I would like to think that if she was not around any more there would be someone who would love me enough to help me get over missing her. I know that if we could, we would have a pack, not just fish.
If you are going to give a home to a four legs… yes, even a cat…remember that we oldies need loving too.
She says that rescue dogs are the best.
Much love, Ani xxx
Who couldn’t or wouldn’t love you Ani ❤

You, little black Ani, were the cutest puppy on earth, so someone simply had to take you in and love you! All of our rescues were older dogs. Gibbs was 9 and Nan was 10. We are old, so we might as well have dogs who understand old 😀

Mine says she is glad we are growing old together… though she adds disgracefully for some reason.Anyone would think I don’t behave 😉 xxx

I am a rescue dog too and I am so happy I came to live with my people. They just gave me a long walk, some gravy on my dinner and now we are playing with my ball. LIfe is good. I think I have them trained well. Love, Dot.

Well trained two-legses are the best. Mine is well and truly under the paw, Dot. And she says there will be chicken later 😉 xxx

Our rescues in South Africa quite often come from abusive situations. I have never really given thought to the problem of rescues due to people passing on.

A lot of animals, especially older ones, are left behind when their owners die or become to ill or faril to care for them. It is doubly tragic for older animals as they are often overlooked in the rescues. So, bizarrely, are black dogs.

I think I’ve asked you before if Ani was a sprollie as they are so alike, but she isn’t is she. She has such a lovely face, and those eyes are so expressive! She can have as many biscuits as she wants!! I’m lost!

No, English Setter and Toller cross… and a good setter size too. As to the biscuits, she needs to lay off them a bit, methinks 😉

Maggie’s getting a bit of a tummy, she weighed in at 15kg at the vets, the heaviest, but still well within the parameters. We’ve always been conscious of her weight, not keeping it down, but maintaining it as her eating habit are, shall we say, a little erratic bordering on fanciful!

She must definitely be related to Ani somewhere along the line… Ani is the same with her eating. She doesn’t diet, but I adjust her meals to suit what else she has managed to snaffle 😉

Maggie eats when she’s hungry, but prefers the nice stuff that humans have. Her food is down all the time as we have no other pets. Barney was a night eater, which convinced us even more that he was half fox!

Ani eats within five minutes of me getting up, regardless of the time, and at five pm precisely… and lets me know if it is five past 😉 The rest of the time, she helps reduce my calorie intake 😉

The only thing Maggie adheres to on a regular basis is her walks! If we’re not heading for the door, she’s shepherding us! And she can whinge for England!

Ani, you were an adorable puppy and still pretty cute. I’m sure that if your Two-Legs were not able to take care of you and love you, one of her many friends (the ones closer to home than those of us across the big water) would gladly fill in for her. You are sort of famous. And, yes, older Four-Legs often loose their Two-Legs and need new homes and have lots of love to give.

I think one of my boys would look after me, but I do feel for those who have no one there to care for them.

Your boys do sound like good fellows. In my area we do have an animal shelter (of the no-kill type) that takes very good care of quite a number of both dogs and cats until new homes are found for them.

I came from one of those 😉 (And my boys are awesome 🙂 )
