Notes from a small dog – We were all young once… #NationalPuppyDay

Me as a puppy

She nearly made me miss this! Can you believe it?

Old or young, two legs or four, we were all puppies once and a little love can heal many things.

I am a rescue pup… Mum and Dad we found looking after each other in a field while me and my litter mates were born.

Pups are cute, but older dogs need loving homes too. My Mum and dad were lucky and found people who would love them. Not all older dogs are so lucky. Lots of older dogs end up in rescues when their older two-legses go for the Long Sleep.

I am an older dog now. I would like to think that if she was not around any more there would be someone who would love me enough to help me get over missing her. I know that if we could, we would have a pack, not just fish.

If you are going to give a home to a four legs… yes, even a cat…remember that we oldies need loving too.

She says that rescue dogs are the best.

Much love, Ani xxx

  4. You, little black Ani, were the cutest puppy on earth, so someone simply had to take you in and love you! All of our rescues were older dogs. Gibbs was 9 and Nan was 10. We are old, so we might as well have dogs who understand old 😀

I am a rescue dog too and I am so happy I came to live with my people. They just gave me a long walk, some gravy on my dinner and now we are playing with my ball. LIfe is good. I think I have them trained well. Love, Dot.

  6. Our rescues in South Africa quite often come from abusive situations. I have never really given thought to the problem of rescues due to people passing on.

A lot of animals, especially older ones, are left behind when their owners die or become to ill or faril to care for them. It is doubly tragic for older animals as they are often overlooked in the rescues. So, bizarrely, are black dogs.

Ani, you were an adorable puppy and still pretty cute. I’m sure that if your Two-Legs were not able to take care of you and love you, one of her many friends (the ones closer to home than those of us across the big water) would gladly fill in for her. You are sort of famous. And, yes, older Four-Legs often loose their Two-Legs and need new homes and have lots of love to give.

Such a cute little darling! More than that, Ani is a wise soul with the capacity for reading us two-leggeds like a book…
