She’s weird. I know I’ve said it before…but she is. Not at all consistent.
I have my own bed in the hall. She has hers in the bedroom. And then, there is the sofa which is sort of neutral territory. ‘Cept it is mostly mine
Every night she comes to my bed for a snuggle…that’s just the way it is. She always comes to say goodnight. Even if I’m on the sofa, when she starts cleaning her teeth, I go to my bed and I know she’ll be there for a cuddle any minute. I know where I stand with that, even though I’m laid down.
Then there’s the sofa. I get it to myself most of the time…and I can stretch really good and fill it almost end to end. But sometimes she’ll come and sit down on it with me. Sometimes we’ll even curl up and go to sleep on it together if she gets tired or tries to watch the box-thing in the corner. That always sends her to sleep. That’s good too.

I don’t mind sharing my sofa. Going to sleep with a two-legs is a trust thing, you know. Dogs only snooze with creatures they trust…even if they snore. She says I snore like a steam train. Says she has kept trying to film me… but until I see the evidence, I am not inclined to believe her. I’ve never heard me snoring and I always sleep with one ear open… it’s part of my job description.
Though we’d best not mention ears. She’s been chasing me a lot with the horrid squirty thing. Says I have a poorly ear. WelL, I know that! But I don’t know why she thinks squirting cold, cucumbery stuff in them will help! Would she fancy smelling like a salad?

Anyway, where was I? Oh yes, the whole bed thing.
Well, her bed is in her bedroom. And it’s big, way too big for one little two-legs. I should think she’d be lonely up there on her own, but she says no, she’s fine, every time I try offer to keep her company. So she’ll let me in the room sometimes, if she’s doing stuff, but soon as it is ‘bedtime, girlie’ that’s it, the door gets shut.
‘It’s too high for you, girlie,’ she says. I’ve shown her loads of time how easily I can get up there! And I am not getting too old to jump down again, whatever she says. It’s just that the floor’s a bit slippery for paws. And it’s not my fault she struggles to lift me down and it has nothing to do with all the extra treats I’ve had lately either! One of us may be getting a bit older than we may like to think…
So, I know the rules, although I may not always remember them. No getting on her bed. Even though I let her on mine…go figure!

But when she wasn’t well she had to go lay down… and she may have forgotten the door. If she is going to lay down in the day, it is usually on the sofa, so I was a bit worried, you know. That’s why I crept in, just to check on her. Doing my duty.
But the bed is too high, I couldn’t see properly to check. So I had to get up there. No choice! I was as careful as I could be… crept like a cat… but she must have felt the bed move ’cause she flung her arm out and I was trapped! I didn’t dare move!
She didn’t wake up properly though… just muttered something about furry hot water bottles and snuggled up. So I thought I’d better stay put. Didn’t want her to get cold or anything.
Trouble is, she was so warm and cosy she slept right through my walk time and my dinner!
‘Serves you right, girlie,’ she says when she finally wakes up. ‘You shouldn’t be so cuddlesome.’
I hope that doesn’t mean she’s remembered about my diet again? I don’t fancy skipping any more meals!
Much love,
Ani xxx

Ani you are right the two legs are really weird about their bed’s. They are always cuddling me in mine but I am not allowed up stairs at all!! At the moment they are shortening my walks because the are worried about my leg ! I was eight yesterday and they say I am getting old? What a cheek they are incredibly old! Two legs can live with them can live without them! We do love them though, and they live us back. 💜💜💜

I hate to tell you this, Ani, but I have tricked my two legs into letting me sleep in between them on their bed, on my blanket of course. You see I have short hair and get very cold at night and they feel sorry for me. BTW you are a very cute dog. Cuddles and licks, Dot the dog!

I’m not allowed on the sofa, and my bed gets moved from the lounge to the bedroom at night. I still sleep on theirs though. It’s warmer, and lately there’s this little lump that generates heat that is soooooo soothing on my joints. I just shuffle around a bit and snuggle in. Then I stretch out and push a little and get all this space to myself. She sleeps on the edge of the bed anyway, so what’s the difference? I keep her company when He gets up in the early hours. Nice warm bit where he was. Love Maggie. xxx

Hi Ani, this is Idina and Fiyero. We are perplexed by your situation. We sleep with our two legs every night. Sometimes the cats get up there and Idina gets scared and leaves. Do not! Do too! Anyway, sorry we can’t help, but we advise you to get all of the snuggle time possible no matter what she says.

I snuggle as much as I can…even if I have to sit on her to keep her still….but do think she’d sleep better with me up there too 😉 xxx

Hi Ani. Sorry she was ill, but glad she had you to look after her. Hope you don’t end up missing too many walks and dinners (even if she thinks missing the dinners would do you good). My humans let me sleep on the big bed. They even got steps so I could get on and off myself, since it really was too high when I was a really tiny pup. I tried telling them I’m big and don’t need the steps now… Even jumped on and off the bed without my steps to prove it… But they just say, “danit, Lilie! Use your steps.” Then start saying something about how noisy I am when I jump instead of using the steps. I don’t make that much noise… I’m only a small dog, after all. Besides, they should hear how noisy they are sometimes. Lots of licks, Lilie

I’m glad we aren’t the ONLY people who don’t sleep with our dogs, even though The Duke leaps the gate, then attacks the door with all his might and main and there’s a good deal of might and a huge dollop of MAIN. I’m afraid one of these days, the door and the dog will both come down and we will all sleep together again.

Ani would be in in a flash given the slightest opportunity. But she snores too much.

For me, it’s three things: The height of the bed is unsafe for our short-legged dogs. Both Scotties are 11. They would break if they fell off the bed.
Duke farts. OMIGOD does he fart.
Hair. As it is, even with them NOT in the bedroom, everything I own is covered with hair. I take the cover off a brand new item and it’s hairy before I finish putting it on. Duke is the hairiest and he has floaters. His fur wanders far from home.

You’re a good girl, Ani – willing to share your warmth with your two legged. I do share the bed at night with mine – I like to sleep right by her head and purr in her ear around 6AM when I’m getting bored guarding her. One way to get her up is to let her stroke me and then I nip. THAT gets her up. She says I’m a bad cat then, but really I’m not.

Wish your two-legs well for us, Ani. We’re not allowed on the two-legs beds either, but we do have our beds inside that room where they snore. It sometimes wakes us up, but they tell us that we wake them when we dream.
Lots of hugs from us.
