Guest author: Jim Webster – “Sometimes I Sits and Thinks”

Jim Webster may be better known for his work as the alter ego, or perhaps the amanuensis, of the Port Naain poet par excellence, Tallis Steelyard, but he does have a day job… and a brand new book…

Sometimes I Sits and Thinks

I suppose I should apologise for wandering in like this. After years of trying to pass myself of a fantasy author, it occurred to me that I really ought to do something with all the tales and characters that crawl out of my day job.

Over the last few years I’ve kept a blog. Initially it was supposed to sell my books. But a writer rapidly learns that the number of people who want to read a blog about how wonderful your books are is strictly limited. So I started writing about other stuff that happens as well.

Anyway, because of my real life, that of being a small farmer in South Cumbria, a lot of the stuff that crept into the blog involved Border Collies, sheep, cattle and even lesbians in fast cars.

Anyway I combed through the blog and pulled out the stuff that might be stuffed casually into the pigeonhole marked ‘farming’. Better minds than mine checked the spelling, and I made it into an ebook, with a picture of Jess on the front cover. As perhaps the quintessential Border Collie I felt she deserved it.

So I’d merely say that if you fancy a few true stories, anecdotes about real people, and an insight into rain, sheep and of course, Border Collies, then dash out and buy it now.

Sometimes I sits and thinks by [Webster, Jim ]Sometimes I Sits and Thinks

Jim Webster

“I suppose a lamb climbing out of the oven isn’t major problem for most households, and indeed it isn’t a problem for us either to be honest. I’d even see it as a sign of success…”

A collection of anecdotes, it’s the distillation of a lifetime’s experience of peasant agriculture in the North of England. I’d like to say ‘All human life is here,’ but frankly there’s more about Border Collies, Cattle and Sheep.

About the authorJim Webster

Someone once wrote this about him:

“Jim Webster is probably still fifty something, his tastes in music are eclectic, and his dress sense is rarely discussed in polite society. In spite of this he has a wife and three daughters.
He has managed to make a living from a mixture of agriculture, consultancy, and freelance writing. Previously he has restricted himself to writing about agricultural and rural issues but including enough Ancient Military history to maintain his own sanity. But seemingly he has felt it necessary to branch out into writing fantasy and Sci-Fi novels.”

Now with eight much acclaimed fantasy works and two Sci-Fi to his credit it seems he may be getting into the swing of things.
