Celebrating

14 sept 164

It has been a lovely day. Chilly, grey, cloudy.. but dry at least. A nondescript autumn day…but it has been wonderful.

It begins with two friends at dawn, duly supplied with coffee (while Ani hopefully wields tennis balls) hunched over computers proofing and editing. It continues almost non-stop conversation, punctuated with gifts and cards, a visit from one son, flowers and chocolates, wine, films and Céline in French.

Then doughnuts and giggles with another son, the promise of a celebratory lunch tomorrow,  before heading out in search of history, mystery, tangential theorising and fabulous art. All this set in the beautiful landscape of Albion to a soundtrack of Pink Floyd. The day is filled with chance encounters with fur and feather… though the snail has little to do with either, indeed, as it perches atop the fennel seed-heads, bridging the worlds. There are horses in search of mints, woodpeckers and foxes, kites and ravens… and Ani, still wielding balls when we get home after watching an amazing sunset.

A working dinner while Stuart proof-reads and I answer all the lovely messages and wishes from friends across the globe… meanwhile Ani waits for surplus cheese, with a ball to hand ( or paw)…

And just to finish it off, Stuart and I are proud to announce our new baby… The Initiate. Sounds like a pretty amazing day? Oh yes… I haven’t had so much fun for my birthday in decades.
