Notes from a Small Dog: Sleeping dogs lie..?

It is tough being under the weather,
Especially when you can’t talk,
When you don’t fancy playing or dinner
And you don’t really fancy a walk.

But everyone, four-legs or two-legs,
Has days when they don’t feel too bright;
You just want to snuggle up somewhere
And sleep half the day and all night.

But if you are just a small canine,
Your two-legs will worry like mad
And pull all the stops out to help you
To stop you from looking so sad.

She has walked me as much as I’ve wanted
Then wrapped me up cosy and warm,
She’s cooked loads of special treats for me
And cuddled me more than the norm.

Being poorly does have compensations;
‘Cause she’s worried to death, I can tell.
But now she is just so attentive…
I’m not in a rush to get well.

She just smiled when I emptied my toy box
And said, “Glad to see you at play.
Little girl, that means you’re feeling better
And we’ll have you to rights any day.”

Discretion’s the best part of valour,
So I just went straight back to bed.
I let her collect all my playthings
And cuddled a furry instead.

It’s not that I want her to worry…
But one of the things I have learned
Is that I have a luxury diet
As soon as she’s getting concerned.

So, I may just stick with the pathos…
Well, what is a small dog to do?
She’s poached me a chicken for dinner…
I may just stay ‘ill’… wouldn’t you?

    Oh Ani, you are such a sly girl. But it is no good to feel poorly. I do hope it doesn’ require a visit to that four letter word place.. Let your worried two-legged know that you are okay – mine worries excessively if I don’t come out from under the bed (where I sleep sometimes) when she comes home after being out.
