This week’s photo was taken in the Norman church of St Kenelm in the Cotswold village of Enstone. There was a tiny doorway, a little ajar, some way up a wall… and there just happened to be something to stand on… it was too good an opportunity to miss.
The door led up a narrow, crumbling stairway to the old priests’ room above the porch where once he would have lodged. There was little there save an old lectern and a simple processional cross leaning against the wall, yet, with the light streaming through the window, it looked as if it were peopled with angels. I found it beautiful.
It is curious how many took a dark twist with the stories written for this image. It just goes to show how individual our view of the world always is. None of us see through the same eyes, though we can attempt to do so by listening to each other’s words. Sometimes it seems thre is little more than perspective dividing tragedy from joy.
Secrets
The heart is empty
Holding only one secret
For eternity
*
An infinite space
As vast as the universe
Deep as the ocean
*
Small as an acorn
Its branches embrace Eden
And bear only truth
*
A humble vessel
Grows to hold a sacrament
Formed of earthly clay
*
It cannot be filled
When the light of love is seen
Nor ever run dry

There are some wonderful stories this week. Maybe we tend to associate old and dusty with ‘evil’ a little too quickly.

I wanted to write about this one, but did not, for one reason. At first glance, I was sure that was some sort of miniature guillotine. ☺☺
