The silver striped hawk moth is not a common sight in the UK, originating mainly in Africa and South Asia. One of several unusual moths we have seen in my son’s garden this year.

I’ve been observing the moth caterpillars more this year. Some are very hairy little guys – Some are what is called a tussock moth. Most end up as small brown moths. Some have equal light tan on both upper and lower wings, and some have lighter coloring on their lower wings.

When I was visiting a butterfly house I got to see the largest moth ever: An Atlas Moth! As big as two hands toether!
