The photo for this week’s prompt was taken as we attempted to get inside the Church of St Lawrence in Broughton, Milton Keynes. The heart-shaped key-plate and its ornate key gave little indication of what we would find behind the locked door.

Set within the bounds of a modern, ‘designer’ city, it is a completely unexpected gem of a mediaeval church, whose walls are covered with fifteenth-century paintings. There are scenes as varied as the Virgin tipping the Scales to prevent the condemned souls from being claimed by the Devil, a graphic depiction of the evils of blaspheming and a superb (if headless) St George and the Dragon.
