Hypnotic regard

Summer’s deserters return

Determined assault

*

With the first warmth of spring, all the stray cats who had taken up residence in the warmth of my son’s home found better things to do. Through summer, we caught the occasional glimpse as they sauntered through the garden.

‘Frank’, pictured here, and known by many names throughout the neighbourhood, was fed and cosseted, had expensive treatment at the vet for his battle-wounds and spent a whole winter curled up on my son’s knee, only to abandon him for the freedom of the streets when the world warmed once more.

Winter is returning… and so are the cats, staring fixedly at the door, seeking admission. Cupboard-love at its most obvious… or its most frank.
