Photo prompt round-up – Enigma #writephoto

The photo for this week’s prompt was taken at within the great stone circle of Avebury. It is a place we have visited very many times…and one of which we could never tire. We have walked the circle in the sunshine and beneath the moon at dead of night. We have pondered the meaning and purpose of these great stones… and, no matter how often or how wildly we and others speculate, there will always be a mystery here. This particular photograph was taken in the south-western quadrant of the circle and there is something about it that seems to separate this section from the rest.

More wonderful entries this week. I’d like to welcome the new contributors and thank  everyone who took part. Please click on the links below to visit all the posts and leave a comment for the author! A new prompt will be published later today and I will reblog as many as I can through the week as they come in… but given the volume of entries we are getting now, that will not be all of them. All contributions will be featured in the round-up on Thursday.

The vagaries of WordPress mean that occasionally a pingback won’t get through. If you have written a piece for this week’s challenge and it does not appear below, please leave a link in the comments and I will add it to the list.

Come and join in!

It seems many of us, including you, find the stones to have a sense of humor.

I love evocative evidence of the past, thinking about the people who carved and located them, as dignified, intelligent and as driven as we are now.

Wonderful and varied entries as always. I loved the photo and had jotted down some ideas, but I didn’t have time to sort them out into anything I could show anyone! I love this weeks’ photo, lots of inspiration coming, hope I can sort it into something publishable!
