I love this and not just because you have a cute squirrel in the post. Very interesting last line “A privileged encounter As an uninvited guest.” Just one question…is the squirrel the intruder or are you?

You know, Sue, I just saw my first squirrel in our back garden the other day. We are in a new housing area and the trees are small. Your photo looks identical to our squirrels. Just goes to show how illustrious those guys are! LOL! I loved your take on them planning a spring celebration. ❤

I seldom get them here either… all fields and hedgerows…but I see them at Nick’s and whn I’m out and about. I’ve always loved squirrels.

When we lived in Montana, we had an all black squirrel living nearby. I had never seen one like that and later learned that he was a rare type of squirrel. After a few years there were many of them with that dark fur. 😀

We have a few here too, though I haven’t seen one. I miss our red squirrels though, they are beecoming very rare and they were always the ones we saw when I was younger.

I remember red squirrels in the U.K. also when I lived near RAF Lakenheath. I was surprised at their color.

They are more delicate than the greys… with beautiful tufted ears.
