Weird. I kept trying to find the Haiku and it didn’t appear until I clicked on comments. I was drawn because I’ve always found the Bird of Paradise flower to be so exotic and entrancing. I cannot imagine a place in the world in which they are considered common as a daisy or a tulip might be here. Do you suppose some people actually pass them by with out appreciation?

  2. We used to have birds of paradise flowers in California – haven’t seen them as much around here. But the haiku also reminds me of California; we moved there, thinking it was all sunshine and beaches and fun times. On my second or third week living in a ramshackle, overpriced apartment, I overheard a guy on the phone talking about how he wanted to move to the east coast, where the sun always shined and he could sit on the beach. I laughed, realizing that I hadn’t appreciated what I gave up.

  5. We do get blase about things on our doorstep.. I remember when I lived in Wales and used to go trekking up Cader or Snowdon and the number of locals who had never walked up either and seen the stunning views from the top..I have noticed that about other tourist hot spots too. As you say the grass is always greener…take it from a recovering nomad!! xx
