What is it with two-legses and things that go bang in the night, hmm? Ask any sensible creature… and they are easy to find, as we almost all have four legs each… and we will tell you that loud noises, sudden flashes and, well, pretty much anything you two-legses do with that gunpowder stuff in general… It’s not great, you know.
Mine is as bad as the rest. She needn’t think I can’t see her peeping out of the window when the bangs start. She says she likes the smell and the lights… makes her feel like a puppy again. She seems to like that and that’s all well and good for her, but they make me feel like a puppy again too… all scared and shaky.
To be fair, she’s pretty good. She doesn’t go off and leave me. She makes sure the curtains are closed, usually puts something on one of the boxes that make a noise and always snuggles up with me till the bangs stop.
This time, she’s been doing a lot of snuggling. She says it is all the fizzy-o she has had lately. Now, if I had stuff that made me ache and groan like this fizzy-o stuff of hers, I wouldn’t eat it myself.
I told her so, but she just laughed and said she didn’t have to eat it and it is s’posed to make her feel better. Can’t see any signs of that… Me, I’d give it a wide berth if it is that bad…
Anyway, I just wanted to remind everyone to make sure that your furries, four-legses and featheredy friends are safe while the bangs and flashes are going off… it seems to be the season for it. I know lots of you enjoy it… but lots of us don’t.
I may just go and test out the den she’s making me under the desk…
Much love,
Ani xxx
‘fizzy-o’, very good…

I don’t like fireworks either, Ani. I am scared stiff that they will cause a fire or that the petrol station down the road will blow up. I avoid them like the plague.

Sue Vincent has let Ani loose again with her keyboard, in a very good cause.. Sam hated fireworks and would become a lap dog, all 40kilo of him and tell me it was because he wanted to protect me. When you see a strong, proud dog reduced to a quivering mess, it is heartbreaking.. The organised firework displays are spectacular, but they are easier to manage than the indiscriminate popping off of bangers and rockets in neighbouring gardens. It is not only domestic dogs and cats who are terrified but wildlife too.. So please think about that and find a wide open space away from houses to celebrate Guyfawkes, or go to a local offical display. Thanks to Ani for the reminder.

Ah, Ani! My little Lune is used to loud bangs. We live near Camp Pendleton, a military training base that let’s 500 ton bombs for practice. My picutres never stay straight on the walls.

Ani, you a quite right, we two-legs are strangely enamored of the bang and boom things and it hard on other creatures, including those who live wild and not in our houses. It’s also true that many two-legs have trouble with them, those who have been in wars and such where the booms are really dangerous. She did make you a nice den.

She’s put me a blanket over the dean now , so I can get right out of the way if I want 🙂
Yes, she worries about the creatures out there too… and about the two-legses who get scared and upset by the noise and flashes. She says she’s suffered with PTSD herself, though not for bangs and flashes, so can only imagine how hard it must be…

Hi Ani. I’m not scared of those bangy flashy firework things. I was even watching them at the window with her last night. At least, I was until I remembered I hadn’t chewed on my rawhide shoe for a while, so decided it would be more fun to stretch out on the bed and chew on that, so left her to it. Sorry you don’t like them though. But glad she stays with you and tries to make you feel better. Lots of licks, Lilie

They never used to bother me much, Lillie… but one year was awfully loud and I haven’t liked them since 😦 xx

Ah, yes. I have a similar problem with drums. I was fine with them at first, and then one was too loud and close, and that was it. Now I’m terrified of them. Lots of licks, Lilie

Yes, Ani, you keep warm and cosy with your two legs. II’ll be on the sofa with mine coz I don’t like the bangs and Adele two legs don’t like em’ either. I heard them talking about the reason for the bangs and sparks and Adele two legs said some Guy was framed. I went back to licking my paw they often speak about things which send me to sleep. Much paw love Dante Dawg. xxx

Not looking forward to the bangs myself Ani. Big display due about 2 miles away tomorrow, not to mention the noise from local properties tonight and next week too. Does my head in. I’ve got a den under the bed, though Mum said she’d go sit on the bed and I could snuggle in if I wanted. Did that last night. Nice, cos my face hurt and I lost a tooth. I got a biscuit from the tooth fairy this morning. Love Maggie xxx

Dot, here. I’m with you on those loud noises. My humans took me to a parade once. What were they thinking? The drums were so loud I tried to hide. They don’t take me out to any loud noises anymore and keep me inside when there are fireworks. Snuggling on the couch is nice. Hope you have lots of cuddles and maybe some treats. Bow wow!!
