#writephoto regulars – Meet Jan Malique

I asked the writephoto challenge regulars if they would like to come over and introduce themselves. Today we meet Jan Malique, who writes at Strange Goings On in the Shed.

Without those of you who write and read the pieces inspired by the weekly photos, the writephoto prompt would not exist. So, if you follow or take part in the weekly challenge, why come over and introduce yourself too?

Being a regular does not mean taking part every week… so why not drop me a line?

I finally plucked up courage to write my mini-biog for Sue’s call for contributions. Why the nerves? It meant leaving the comfort and familiarity of the virtual ‘Shed’ that’s my blog, exploring new territory and meeting new people. Sue’s challenges have been instrumental in my creation of significant characters. So, thank you and blessings!

What’s been surprising is that people actually want to read what I’ve written, even like, comment and share! This feels like the beginnings of a thank you speech at the Oscar’s. So, I’d like to thank my mentor Anubis for all his years of support, Odin for his gift of seership, Thoth for allowing me to partake of his wisdom, the Universe for giving birth to me, Robert, Sue, Jordis, Steve, Alethea, Annette Rochelle, tidalscribe, Stuart, Willow, Teagan, have I missed anyone out? The White Hare!

You see how embarrassing this can get? I’ll cut the speech short. My love of myth, legend and a hunger for exploring unknown and fantastical vistas began in childhood. I was a voracious reader who frequented her local libraries regularly, and dreamt of being either an explorer or archaeologist. There was a huge Universe to explore, with much contemplation and navel gazing going on my friends.

Alas, as time progressed life didn’t quite turn out as expected. Family life was a mixture of illnesses, trauma, laughter and unrealised ambitions. I took on responsibility at an early age, necessitating growing up quickly. Perhaps that’s why I’m so fascinated with the frailty and vulnerability of the human condition. Its sometimes broken and damaged heart pushes this Empath into searching for answers and healing. All this and more are explored in my posts. If you’re a regular follower this will be evident…

What else? A life long interest in spiritual matters has sustained me through many trials and tribulations. I call myself a mystic and explorer of landscapes on the inner and outer worlds. I’m an ordained inter-faith minister and, can I say this out aloud? I’m coming out of the sarcophagus everyone and saying it loud and proud, I’m a Priestess of Anubis as well. That didn’t hurt, not much. This heady elixir is also poured into the blog. Like the Alchemists of old (and present times) my aim is to transmute the gross matter of Self into spiritual gold. Dear friends, reality and the world aren’t what we perceive them to be. Not a bad thing really.

What else do you want to know? I love gardens, plant folklore, Cosmology, Archaeology, Music, Flamenco, Cooking, Science Fiction and Fantasy films/books. Also a passionate believer in human rights and civil liberties. Me in a nutshell, of sorts.

Blogging’s been quite an eye-opener, and immensely satisfying, yielding deep insights.

Sue Vincent was a Yorkshire born writer, esoteric teacher and a Director of The Silent Eye. She was immersed in the Mysteries all her life. Sue maintained a popular blog and is co-author of The Mystical Hexagram with Dr G.M.Vasey. Sue lived in Buckinghamshire, having been stranded there due to an accident with a blindfold, a pin and a map.     I’m so glad you braved the challenge and wrote this post, Jan 😉 How did I not know you had co-written a book about the Egyptian gods? That will be added to my list! I too wanted to be an archeologist when I was a young girl, primarily because of my fascination with ancient Egypt, much like you I suspect. 🙂 ❤
