Petals that tremble in the slightest breeze did not even stir. Liveried in black and gold, summer’s messenger walked lightly upon the rose. Which, I wondered, was the strongest?
When we walk lightly upon the earth, marvelling at her wonders, the earth responds, opening a heart golden as the rose. But Man flies from the dance of the seasons. The earth trembles, scarred by our footsteps, yet beauty endures. Which, I wonder, is the strongest?
Fragility smiles
Flamboyant delicacy
And gossamer strength
Petals endure the furnace
Triumphant beauty embraced

I love “liveried in black and gold.” and “gossamer strength”. Oh and “Opening a heart golden as the rose.” Great message, we are kidding ourselves if we think we are stronger than mother nature.

Thank you. I agree… but we do like our illusions.

Plants are the strongest, in my view, but our damage to them is uncalled for. We are the main beneficiary of walking lightly on the earth. Nice haibun and photography!

Thank you, Frank. Nature will outlive us, one way or another…but we can walk lightly with her if we choose.

Man flies from the dance of the seasons – some men and unfortunately the ones who are in power. I guess we’ll find out who is the strongest. Very touching thought provoking piece beautifully written!

I do love the affair between the bee and the plant… I think they benefit both, but when the summer is gone the plant has won.

Yet both the bee and the flower dream through the winter 🙂

I’m enthralled at your skill in choosing the proper number of letters to form a perfect pyramid that’s a joy to read as well!

I’d like to take credit for that, but it was purely accidental 🙂

It is good to see you here! And I love how you describe, just like our Native Americans, of walking lightly on the earth. And so we should
