It’s been all sticky, hot and torrid,
Now, the weather’s downight horrid;
All we’ve got is clouds and rain..
The English summer’s back again.
The roses glowing in the sun
Have lost their petals, one by one,
Weighed down beneath the weight of rain
But, hopefully, they’ll bloom again.
The lawn has drunk and now will grow
Much faster than my arms can mow…
But where the sun and rain have been
It’s really such a vivid green.
The small dog wanders in and out
Then snuggles up, with rain-soaked snout,
She’s dripping on my floor, all wet…
So I won’t need to bathe her yet!
Each day may hold its share of woe,
We can’t predict, we cannot know,
If, as our challenges begin,
A silver lining hides within.
Brilliant Poem Sue, 🙂 So hope it brightens up at the end of the week, when I am off to the RHS Chatsworth Flower show.. but even the rain would not dampen my joy..
At least we are not watering our gardens anymore this week 🙂

For once, I am glad I won’t be in Derbyshire this weekend. I’d be cursing the traffic through Baslow 😉 Have un, Sue! I hope the weather is glorious 🙂 x

Lovely poem, Sue. Struggling to find my silver lining today with rain pouring in to flood the storeroom of the shop beneath us and what was my son’s room. We can’t find where or how it’s coming in – sodden carpets lifted, workment tramping through both properties shaking their heads in bewilderment. And still it rains. Think maybe building an ark might be wise.

Oh that souds awful, Mary! I hope the rain eases and they can sort it for you!

The rain has stopped and the water stopped coming in so we suspect our neighbour’s gutter and/or downpipe. It’s blowing a gale now so that should help dry things out.

Glad the rain has stopped. The wind is still blowing here, but at least we have sun today 🙂

Funny, I don’t really equate the uk with humidity!

It rains here…a lot. 🙂 But that is why it is so green 🙂

Hm, so if you want the one… you’ve got to have the other. 🙂 That’s the difference between our summers (well except for the tropical North); dry, dry, dry.

We do… and are so used to the green we seldom think about its price 😉

Haha, brilliant! I took my white pup out for a walk this morning, and by the time we got back she looked like she’d been used as a chimney sweep. Here’s to hoping for a dry weekend.

Brilliant poem, Sue. I do love rain but when it goes on and on, I suppose it does get a bit much. We have such intense heat and dryness her in SA, rain is always welcome.

We never know what to expect, day to day…and cannot handle extremes of weather well. An inch or two of snow can bring the roads to a halt. A hot day and we wilt. Rain, though, we know well. 😉

We do need the rain, but maybe in smaller doses! It never wants to stop…

Fabulous poem. We’ve experienced much the same. We get soaked, then everything dries out and dries up. I water the garden and then it pours again. The humidity is horrible and next week promises to be in the 90’s (F) with more humidity. And it is only mid-June.

Sometimes there is no where to hide except indoors in AC. It gets too hot for the pool even.

It wouldn’t take much to send me hiding in the AC 🙂

Sounds like North Carolina, except we have more heat and humidity. Just escaped from a week of torrid heat. Now I am experiencing the clouds and rain in London!
