Ghosts

We ran like children, playing in the snow,
Geriatric teenagers with joints that creaked,
While our tears froze,
Ignored in laughter.
We talked the wine away, until the sun rose
Greeting it together, barefoot in the dew
With a fierce joy
As the day began.
You held me when I wept, because of friendship,
I answered to your need, because of love,
The laughter died
And there was silence.
I kissed you as you slept, you did not stir,
And placed a thistle flower in your hand
Because of laughter
And a frozen tear.
