To the tune of God Rest ye Merry Gentlemen:
God rest ye merry gentlemen…
There’ll be no rest for me!
I’ve got to cook and clean and wrap
And then put up the tree…
For Christmas cheer won’t make itself
That I can guarantee…
Oh, oh, we’ll bake the ‘comfort and joy’,
Wrap up a toy,
And that ruddy Christmas song will soon annoy…
*
“A woman’s work is never done”
And Christmas time is worst!
You never get a chance to breathe
For putting others first;
You cook and roast and decorate…
They eat until they burst!
Oh, all diets one Christmas will destroy,
Can you enjoy
Knowing e-e-lastic waistbands are a ploy..?
*
God rest ye merry gentlemen…
You ate the ruddy lot!
You stripped the turkey, ate the cheese,
And cleaned out every pot!
You drank the wine and fell asleep
After that second ‘shot’…
Oh, oh, tidying up is not a joy
Never a joy…
And sometimes I wish that I had been a boy.
Another great one!!!!

Nice take on a classic. When I taught Sunday school, I did a couple of these for Christmas carols. Wish i could remember them

Thankfully, I’m only cooking for me, Nick and the dog Christmas day 🙂

It’s just the three of us too. A nice leisurely morning and a simple lunch with all the trimmings but chicken unless I can get some sensibly priced turkey as there’s no way we could eat a whole bird, even if I froze the leftovers as my freezer simply isn’t big enough.

There will be nothing leisurely about my day… granndchildren before breakfast then on to work, collect Nick after ‘doing’ for him, then back to cook. I’ll find a turkey crown… we can manage that between us, though I do miss the thighs for sandwiches 😉

I have to say that these are pretty funny and clever, Sue, but I feel bad about singing songs about your misery. I hope you’re feeling better. Put those boys to work too! 🙂

Possibly not ‘just’ the women, though 😉

Hehe, I think we should start new traditions, like letting the guys do the tidying up for starters? 😉

For the first time in a very long while, I will not be cooking Christmas dinner this year. As ‘oldies’ we have been invited to share our grand daughter’s table this year. My emotions are swinging from relief to indignation and back again. This Christmas day is going to be completely out of my control and not entirely sure what I think about that…
As long as I don’t get saddled with the washing up!

It does felstrange, doesn’t it, when someone else takes charge. When they had all left home, I found myself at a loss and with beans on toast for dinner as no-one was coming. That was an odd,but very peaceful Christmas.

It does feel odd, and I am getting very nervous but hopefully, everything will be all right! Christmas is sacred in our family and I would hate for anything to spoil it!
