A long hot summer
Drink the lifeblood of the land
Draining it dry

Wide shores to greensward
Transforming desecration
Lake to rivulet

Greed ignoring need
Blind to Nature’s warning laughs
Empties the chalice

Exposing the depths
Drowned villages re-emerge
Giving up the ghost

Most welcome. We’re having a bit of flooding just now…

The ground is so dy here that a wet winter will bring flooding here too.

This is the first year in ten that our rivers have not been reduced to mud. We are lucky they haven’t overflowed the banks. We have not be flooded … but if the rain doesn’t stop, it’s not far off. How strange because summer is typically dry and I don’t think we’ve had two days in a row that weren’t rainy.

The reservoirs have been low for a few years now, but this series of huge lakes have dried to a trickle this year. We really need a wet winter.

We only had a few days of rain all year long. There was a talk about mandatory water rationing.
Your set of haiku tells a good story, Sue!

We tend to forget how dependant we are on rain…

Yes, we get water from northern California from piping system. We’ll die without that.

If people realised just how close to the bottom of the Chalice we really are … Herself is giving out some harsh lessons.
