We had a fellow much like this guy. Barb and I watched him lunch on his capture each morning while we set on the porch having coffee. Several weeks passed then a storm came through so severe that we lost our power for 28 hours.

    We haven’t seen him since.

Golden Orb spiders have amazing patterns on their abdomens, and beautiful webs – I try to protect any I find, and won’t let anyone tear the webs down or trim off the big leaves they hide in. They do an amazing job of dealing with the things that eat my garden.

  3. Do you know that because of you and a couple of other people, I am not automatically killing every spider I encounter? I even let them live around the front door because they kill other insects. You have helped me overcome a lifelong phobia.

That’s wonderful to read, Marilyn! I still treat them with respect in the house, and remove small ones from my bedroom and car after the spider-bite fiasco, but some of the ones that have decided to share my home are as big as field mice. At least you can see where they are 🙂
