New Kits on the Block…

I’m sitting there reading, curled up with a book,
When all hell broke out, so I shot up to look…
The small dog was barking at some dark intruder…
Assessing the villain, I quickly subdued her.

We have a new problem, the small dog and me,
Two cats have moved in on the corner, you see,
They’re young and adventurous, don’t understand
That Ani objects to them prowling ‘her’ land.

They sit on the fence and look in through the door
Till the small dog explodes and can’t take any more.
She barks at the window, while they sit there quiet,
With me in the thick of it, calming the riot.

I’m trying to maintain some distance between them
And pulling the curtains closed, hoping to screen them,
The dog burrows under, the cats move in nearer,
Although the dog’s message can’t be any clearer.

Now, I know she’s gentle, for all of her bluster,
A bark is the worst that the small dog can muster,
She’d not harm a hair on a butterfly’s wing…
But faced with a feline, by God she can sing!

If I were a cat, I’d not think that she’s playing,
I do not speak dog, but I know what she’s saying,
“I’ll tolerate pigeons and cows and all that…
But such curiosity will kill the cat!”

I foresee some ‘fun’ for the small dog and me
With her herding cats and me as referee,
I do hope the cats will retreat back to their space
And leave the small dog just defending her air space.

Cats are very weird, they don’t seem to mind being shouted at. If you really want them to leave you must use a water pistol!

I hope that Ani and the cats can come to some sort of truce. Cats, of all beasts, invading her space? It’s just not on!

Dot would not be happy if cats invaded her space. We do have some feral cats around but they seem to know they aren’t welcome at our place. I hope Ani gets them sorted. xo

Ani will be well entertained. We must hope that the cats don’t take too much interest in her tennis balls. That would be war.
