Our scars show we’ve lived. π When I had my major soft-tissue transplant on my knee the plastic surgeon who did the work offered to ‘tidy up’ my existing scars while he was at it. I thanked him kindly and turned him down, 1 – because I didn’t want to stay unconscious for any longer than necessary (the surgery went for 13 hours anyway) and 2 – I earned every one of those scars and was perfectly comfortable having evidence of that on the outside of my skin. I’m fairly sure he thought me a bit odd before that conversation, but was convinced of it afterwards. π

Scars and wrinkles are the record wwe bear of the laughter and tears that have shaped us. I’m full of them…and turned down the plastic surgery on my face too.
