Folly

As noble knights by sanctity embraced,
Stories traced upon a silent tomb
Emblazoned and caparisoned
In semblance of history
Laid to rest in glory.
Truth not writ in stone,
Death corrupted
Serving life
Enslaved.
False.
Fake.
Worthless,
Ego-wrought,
Mere trumpery.
Fearing exclusion,
History created;
The image takes precedence.
Inferiority boasts
Aristocratic lineage.
Living in fear of an empty life
Tombstones cover prophecy self-fulfilled.

These monuments, at first apearing to be exceptional examples of medieval tombs are no more than a sham… commissioned by a wealthy merchant to add a gloss of aristocratic respectability to his lineage at a time when ‘smelling of the shop’ tainted social standing.

Hi Sue. Wonderful double Etheree. This makes me wonder about the merchant and also about the kind of snobs he must have been surrounded by. 😉 xo Happy Friday!
