Special request

Dear Universe, can I just say
That everything now smells of hay,
I’ve cut the lawn down, best I can,
(And wished I could employ a man…)
Cause, what with all the sun and rain,
The green stuff had gone mad again.

‘Cause rain you gave us, all the way,
And practically every day
In bucketloads, or fine as mist
That only rarely would desist
Tiil I get home… admit defeat…
And then you turn on all the heat!

I only took a week away
A week that was both work and play,
A short break is not much to ask
But in return, I face a task…
For every single thing I own
Is dusty, hairy, or has grown.

I’ve hoovered up the clippings and
Swept up the ant-hill burrowed sand,
I’ve tackled cobwebs, dusted through,
I’ve scrubbed until home shines anew…
I’ve cleaned the fish and bathed the hound
And all the buried dog-treats found.

As if that’s not enough, I’ve been
Each day to work to cook and clean,
I’ve written, researched and designed…
(All with bronchitis, bear in mind…)
So, Universe, a small request…
Please can I have a bloody rest?

  6. The weather in the UK has been dismal this year, Sue. It has been flooding near to my mom’s home town. I hope it will be more normal when we come in mid-August. I am expecting Scotland to be quite cold [by our standards]. I hope you are feeling better now. You seem to get bronchitis quite often. .

Grass in unforgiving in the summer, which is why I like autumn best of all. It can just be! Too bad Ani is not a grass eating animal – you could just put her out on the lawn. May I make a suggestion? Some people around here rent goats to take care of their yard. Takes a couple of day but they get rid of everything!

  8. We’ve also had endless rain and NOW it’s getting warm. Our frontlawn has gone crazy again and definitely needs scything (again) … and even though the backyard was done just a week ago, it already looks like meadow time!

All things considered, having a day off just isn’t possible. But now you have caught up with everything you can squeeze a little time off?

Oh my gosh, Sue, take it easy and get rid of that nasty bronchitis. When we go away for even a short time, I leave the house in perfect order. I hate to come home to a mess because I know before I even get out of the car, I’ll have to pick up the mail and sort it, go to the grocery to restock, and empty those suitcases of stuff that gets put away and the mounds of laundry we wore while gone. There is no rest for the weary! Take care, my friend. ❤️🤗❤️
