First and last…

Fall in love for the very first time

Prey to romantic fantasy

Crucifixion of the heart

Hopes are raised and blighted

Dreams unrequited

Rollercoasting

Emotions

Falter

Fade

*

Years

Reveal

Deeper truth

No longer grasping

Giving, not possessing

The heart flies free of its cage

Joy becomes the essence of life

When you learn to love for the last time

Double Nonet for Colleen’s poetry challenge

I love the way you have combined two forms to show first love and the love of a ripened heart. The shape of the hourglass in which ‘falter’ and ‘fade’ become ‘years reveal’ and the mirroring in the first and last lines make a wonderful, timely work. I found it really heart-warming.

So very true. I just wish I would have known it was the last time. I think I might have handled things quite differently.. Beautiful sentiment…
