Last year my son was welcomed into homes in India… the trip of a lifetime that changed his entire outlook on life. He was particularly touched by the kindness and the generous hearts of the people of Kerala, some of whom have remained his friends an with whom he has been in regular contact. Their kindness made it possible for him to do things he could never have dreamed he would do. They have little and yet their joy and generosity of spirit opened my son’s eyes to how life could be lived and loved.
The people of Kerala are facing the devastating effects of flooding. Hundreds are dead or lost… an estimated million people are now in camps and without homes… and they desperately need help.
In an effort to add a little to the help available on the ground, Neel Anil Panicker, a regular contributor to the writephoto challenge on this blog, has released a book on grammar, and has pledged to give all royalties to the relief effort.
Please consider buying a copy of Neel’s book and adding a little to the help that is so deperately needed. Thank you.
A short story and an appeal reblogged from Neel Writes:

Joshua, the 91-year-old patriarch of the Mathai family is an angry man.
Patriarch and Mathai family – both are misnomers.
Blame it on Nature’s fury.
In just one night, the waters have swallowed his entire clan of 27.
Three sons, their wives, their children, the children’s children – all mere statistics.
Standing on the watery front, he stares, stony eyed, at the sea, at the dark clouds that hover above.
Last year, a million lamps lit the place.
It’s Onam – Keralites’ annual date with Lord Mahabali.
This time it’s curtains down.
He shrugs, then wades into the swirling waters.
It’s time to meet the Creator.
REF:
KERALA IS FACING THE BRUNT OF NATURE’S FURY. THE WORST FLASH FLOODS IN OVER A CENTURY HAVE WRECKED HAVOC, KILLED SEVERAL, RENDERED LAKHS HOMELESS AND MILLIONS ARE ON THE VERGE OF STARVATION.
Neel wrote: “DEAR FRIENDS A BIG THANK YOU for the overwhelming response to my book. Moved by such love and affection I hereby pledge to hand over the entire royalty earned through the sale of my book ENGLISH GRAMMAR FOR ALL to the CHIEF MINISTER’S DISASTER RELIEF FUND in support of the flood victims of KERALA. It is a pleasure to share this, Neel. My son has friends in Kerala who, thankfully, have been spared this horror… but so many need help.
