Obsolete, it stood alone on the hill.
There was no place for old technology now.
The modern turbines, tall, slim and numerous,
Spoil the landscape as they whoosh and sigh in the winds.
They don’t have the charm, or individuality of a windmill.

We know of a windmill.
It’s actually the last six sailed working windmill and we used to frequent it often.
Attached was a tea rooms, where cakes, breads and scones were made from the flour it ground. It was our weekly treat, until we had to cut back on our budget.
At times, we bartered our surplus beans, onions, tomatoes, apples and elderberries for a cream tea on a Sunday. We would get a jar of the chutney made from them at Christmas.
If they were exceptionally busy we would help out with clearing tables and washing up.

    I love the idea that you bartered for your cream tea. There is working water mill near us I think it is the last of its kind in the UK 💜
