Notes from the small dog – Cold feet

dog-004

The door is wide open…

She shivers inside;

She has not enough fur

Wrapped around that thin hide.

Now, me I’m quite cosy

Snug- coated in black

And can sit and enjoy

Autumn sun on my back.

“You are in or you’re out,”

She says, holding the door,

“I’d rather not sit here

And freeze any more.”

Wish she’d make up her mind,

It was she who had said

That I’d better go out

When I got out of bed.

So out I had gone

In the cold, frosty dawn

And padded around

In theΒ  damp of the lawn.

Would she like it, I asked,

If she had to get cold

Before day ever dawns

And the sunrise grows old?

She would not, I am sure,

She would whimper and whine

She has a nice bathroom…

The garden is mine.

And so, just to show her,

I’ll sit in the door,

Neither inside not out

Till my paws start to thaw.!

Then I hear her teeth chatter,

And she’s starting to sneeze…

So I go warm her up,

Cuddled up on her knees.

Yes, I know, I’m a sucker,

It should be no surprise…

Even I can’t resist

Giving in to brown eyes.

πŸ™‚

Much love,

Ani xxx

πŸ™‚ Good dog, Ani! (Although you may be a tad spoiled. πŸ˜‰ There are not many two-legs who would allow you to sit in the open door on a chilly morning, you know.)

Poor Ani. I know it can’t be easy going out into a cold garden before dawn, even with your lovely warm coat. On the other hand, if you’re not very interested in using the, um, indoor facilities…

Anyway, I’m glad you ended up as best of friends again by the end. πŸ™‚

Well, Ani, if it’s any consolation that ‘in or out’ is what my mum was always saying to me when I was small – and I’m a two-legs,

I have a feeling that ‘in or out’ might be important this winter. They say it will be very cold…

  9. I’ve given up going out to wee on cold mornings – I use the bathroom now. OK, so it’s the floor… I’d sit on the toilet if I could, honest! Millie (aged 13) xx

I have to go out on a leash, Ani. So I take my sweet time deciding just where I am going to do my business. I like to sniff around and around. She tells me to get on with it, but some things cannot be rushed! Angel

Ani, what do you think about getting warm booties for your paws? Then you can lounge in the doorway as long as you like. Psst, you didn’t hear this from me.

Oops! Slow internet alert. Hm, perhaps not Ani. As kids my sisters and I were made to wear huge green woolly hats and scarves. Looked like green beans we did. The shame of it. I sympathise. xxx

  18. With the doggy door, our kids get to sit half in and half out. Summer and winter, letting bugs or icy cold in. It’s a dog’s life.
