Masked raiders

I love these little bluetits… there have been several families this year raised at my son’s birdfeeders.

While the parents have more vivid colours and the markings are more precise and distinct, these babies, with their adolescent colours, just look like little balls of fluff…

… and the stripes over their eyes give the impression they are wearing masks. It has been a delight to watch them grow.

Mind you, the young starlings don’t seem to approve of the competition…

  1. So pretty! We haven’t had a lot of birds this year, it has been so cold. We only had two days all summer of what really counts as summer. The rest has been cold and rain….brrrr! This whole global warming thing is whacked. I had to cover my plants this morning – it is snowing tonight. Ugh!

I have a Nikon D90. May I ask, what is your lens (macro?) and settings to get such amazing shots of these gorgeous little birds?

  6. We have a flock of their American cousins. A little less blue, more grey, but very similar. Always a pleasure to have them hopping about the deck.
