Notes from a small dog XXXVI

nicks 021I’ve been visiting this week… awesome!

She’s taken me to see my boy… the one that cuddled me home on that very first day in the car… He was living here then an’ I got to see him every day, now not so often… but she’s taken me with her twice this week! I know when she goes out in the car every day that she is going there and always have a sniff when she comes back… just to check on him you know… and he comes here sometimes too… but I don’t see him enough.

nicks 015I used to go to his place when I was little… I haven’t been down much since The Incident…how was I to know it was a brand new carpet? I was very little… and very excited…  Anyway, we’ll gloss over that…. I’m a good girl now …

Ok, who’s laughing….?

Anyway, when she got the leash and the car keys I thought she was sneaking off again to see the ball guy and taking me to stay with Gooch… I got all excited as we drove down the road, but she went straight past Gooch’s place… and I started to recognise the road….

I’m not supposed to get all bouncy in the car, but honest, I couldn’t help it… just had to start singing… Then all the traffic appeared and the people… so I’m trying to contain my excitement while defending the car… not easy, you know…

Finally we got there… then she made me wait in the car till she’d shut the gates… Soon as she opened the door and took the harness thingy off I was gone… I know where he is… He was still in bed which was perfect for bouncing on him! ‘Fraid he was there a while before I calmed down… ‘specially as you can see the pigeons from his bed…

They took me into the little room next door, though…  the gym or something, they said…and there was a Monster… I mean, you know about me and balls, right? This thing was nearly as big as her! A huge black Monster!!! It took me a bit by surprise, I can tell you… sort of all your worst nightmares come true… the Revenge of the Gym Ball type of thing… And whatever she says, I did not run away or hide behind her legs… I was merely being cautious…

nicks 027There was another ball, though, a bit more my size. My boy played fetch with me for ages… Ok,  I did try and get her to put it in the car a few times, but she wasn’t playing….

Then, last night, we went there again. Not a ball in sight. I patrolled a bit, checking for frogs and birds, and had to speak sharply to a dog over the big wall at the back there… Then he put the box thing on… Well!

His eyes aren’t all that good so his box is huge… She doesn’t put hers on much, and it is usually stuff that sends me to sleep… My boy has taste though… and for the next hour I watched dogs howling…and they watched me, laughing the pair of them for some reason…

I don’t howl. Apparently, a lot of dogs do…. And I found that curious. ‘Specially the puppy howls… they really got to me. The he did something with the thing with buttons and I was surrounded by howling! I had to go and check everywhere to see where they were coming from… Only doing my duty, right? I tracked the sound to a black box thingy and had a good sniff… no dogs in there. I saw no reason the pair of them should laugh like that…

By the time we went home I was falling asleep… it was long past bedtime… I managed to wriggle my way to be able to lean on her as she took us home, then must have flaked out on the floor… I was still there when she got up this morning.

He says I can go see him again though!

I might even be able to deal with that cat I smelt there….

So, I’ve had a good week. Hope you have too! nicks 036

Much love,

Ani xxx

What a great day out Ani! Watch that big black ball – they can be dangerous you know. As that for big black box, Fionn worries about it too. He lays on the sofa (or bed) with his paws hanging over the end and really howls and chatters to it when there are other dogs inside it. Were you watching Crufts?

Very gald you can go see your boy again. Don’t worry about The Incident – it happens xx
