They promised storms and wind and rain…
But sun was blazing once again.
No gales to threaten fence or tree
Or make air breathable for me.
I hoped it would be fresh and cool
But in the dawn, stood, like a fool
To breathe in Turkish bath-like steam
With fresher mornings just a dream…
I could not help but think, indeed,
A thunderstorm is what we need
To douse parched earth and clear the air…
Be careful what you wish for there…
We got the rain, that’s all that matters…
Though the fence now lays in tatters
Splintered into shards of wood
And trees torn down…it wasn’t good.
The dog, who likes to play outside
Must in the living room abide
Until the fence is whole again
Or she’ll escape, run down the lane.
“Create your own reality?”
I must admit the joke’s on me.
I’ll kick myself for being dense…
Then try to fix the dratted fence.

As if that were not enough for one weekend, I spent yesterday heaving the wheelchair in and out of the car, got drenched to the skin during one of the storms doing emergency fish-pond stuff, was bashed in the face by a filial head when we hit a bump, and came home to a PC that refused to start, and which then decided to run at snail’s pace all evening, a keyboard that has only produced one letter in every three that I have typed all week and an inbox that won’t let me in.
For once, I can happily say, roll on Monday…

Sorry your weekend isn’t going too well. Good luck with the fence fixing, and hope the computer issues are easily fixed.

So do I! Thanks, Tori.

I don’t think the PC thing is necessarily you Sue. It’s been on a go slow for several days and WP kept stalling. I’m not a typist, but seem to either keep missing letters, adding a few or suffering from the most acute dyslexia imaginable!
Great poem though!

My fingers type faster than my keybard fairly often, but that tends to be odd letters…this has been whole phrases missed. But I don’t mind blaming WP 😉

Ha! My supervisor (1982-89) thought she was quick on a calculator until they employed me. I was so fast, I blew the fuse as it only stored three or four numbers at a time. They bought me a super dooper one that held 10 and I could whizz through my work sheet (100 values plus every day) without looking at the keyboard. Wish I could type as fast and as accurately!

I have heard the English weather has been erratic – or more so than usual. I pulled out our umbrellas and rain jackets this weekend after a huge search. They were covered in dust …

Umbrellas would have been no use here… far too windy… but it has still been awfully warm for Britain.

Brilliant piece, Sue. I’m sorry that your weekend is a rough one. Hopefully, things will calm back down soon enough.

In the short term how about pallets? … not sure if they’re called the same thing there, but they’re that wooden (usually) framework underneath large crates, etc, that allow forklifts to get underneath ’em and move ’em around … usually found discarded around industrial areas, or gifted if one asks politely … and takes the ever-so-sad-eyed small dog with one. 🙂

Good idea… though they tend to sell them here, for more than the cost of a cheap fence panel.

I can just imagine the looks you’re getting from Ani when she’s confined. I hope everything gets fixed quickly for both you sakes.

I always thought that weekends were supposed to be days off, from everything.
Hope everything is better tomorrow, Sue…

I don’t get weekends as a rule, as I work seven days anyway, but this one take the biscuit.

Hoping all is much eased by now. (Monday evening) … wild weather, getting wilder, and all we can do is adapt.

I don’t mind wild weather, as long as my fences stand 😉
