In days gone by I was honoured and cleansed,
Not for me a cloak of lichen and ivy.
Times change, but still I remain
To show those who have lost the way.
Who acknowledges my presence,
Sees these trees as I do,
My brethren and companions,
Not just a wood to walk through.
There is life here in abundance,
Just stop to listen and you will hear
Birds chatter excitedly, animals scurry
To dens and nests but not in fear.
I am stone, once warm to touch
Heralded as sacred in times past,
My magic may have diminished
But tall and proud, I have another task:
I am guide to others not of this place,
Their beacons shine from the skies
