‘I’m cold and afraid.’
‘Don’t worry, my darling. I’ll look after you. They won’t find us.’
‘Are you sure? It seems we’ve been running for days.’
‘I know, my love. But we’ll be safe soon, I promise.’
‘I’m tired. Can’t we rest for a while?’
‘Just a little further. You see that ridge up there under the trees? We’ll be able to see if anyone’s coming.’

The pair stumbled to the top, and fell to their knees, totally exhausted.
He put his arm around her.
‘I’ve been saving this,’ he said. ‘Come, drink. Everything will be alright now.’
The two shared what was in his flask.
‘Sleep now. Rest your head on my shoulder, and close your eyes.’
Feeling drowsy, she did as he bid.
He prayed that the potion he had been given would quickly take effect as they slep
