‘Oh my god. It’s an alien spider. He did bring something back, just like I said.’

Gemma spun and stared where he sister pointed. Ever since their father returned from the Amazon she’d been trying to scare her with stories of spiders in his luggage.’

‘Ha! As if. It’s a shadow, you nutter.’

‘Yeah, but I had you for a minute, didn’t I? Ice cream?’

‘Sure. Have you seen my hand fox? I use the lamp in the kitchen. It’s really cool.’

As the two sisters left and closed the door, the ‘shadow’ stretched, expanded and crawled towards the shadows. Any time now and its babies would be born and then they could feed to their heart’s content. Those two mammals to start with. All that delicious flesh…
