Dear Santa,
We have a problem. I suppose that should be ‘Houston’, but as you live at the North Pole, it didn’t fit.
But it’s that serious.
You know how you leave presents under the Christmas Tree? You always leave mine there for me to find. Well, she says we might not be able to have one this year! No tree!
She says there’s nowhere to put one.
Well, I know there’s not a lot of space in here… and she says she won’t put it in front of the fishes… but surely there must be something she can shift?
I mean, I love this new place. There’s no stairs for me not to be allowed up, so there’s nowhere she can really hide where I can’t get at her. The doors open easy… and the garden is just great for running round. I can get outside as soon as she thinks about running me a bath… And there’s cows and those big birds I don’t chase…and the pigeons that I do. But…no tree?
We even have our very own robin here. Okay, I know, he’s his own robin, but he’s sort of one of the family. When we very first moved in, he came right in the garden doors to see who we were. He was only a baby then… not even red.
She wasn’t even sure he was a robin at first. But he comes every day…and he’s not frightened of us…and I don’t chase him. I sort of like robins… ever since she ‘xplained about them that first Christmas.
There’s lots of stories about robins and how they got red. It’s bad luck to hurt one or take their eggs, you know. I asked her why and she says that lots of the stories are about kindness. Some tell how robins and wrens work together to cover the dead with leaves. One says the robin tried to help a lark who had flown too close to the sun and got his breast burned. Most, she says, tell about how the little birds tried to comfort Jesus on the Cross and were stained by His blood. So being, Christmas and all, it seems right to have robins. And we always have one on the tree.
She says she’s had him a very long time. I know she’s had him longer than me, ’cause that first Christmas, she put him in the tree…and really confused me!
So, we need a tree for the robin. And maybe for if you’re passing with any presents…
I know you are busy, but… do you think that if I close my eyes and wish really hard, we could magic up a Christmas tree?

Dear Ani, they make trees now that can hang down from the ceiling where there’s no floor space. a quiet bark in Her ear maybe?????

We had this problem when we lived in a caravan, so we bought a real tree and planted it outside the window. Looked amazing too, with lights and tinsel…

Tell her to get you a table tree. A little one, maybe one you can plant in the garden when winter ends. It’s the thought that counts 🙂

Oh, Ani, you look more beauteous than ever but keep fighting for a tree, even a little artificial one. I don’t like the idea of cutting down a tree just to throw it out after a few weeks. Poor Christmas trees. Artificial ones are pretty and economical AND you can get a small one. Maybe she would go for that idea. Love, Ellen

She has a big artificial tree we use every year.. just not enough space these days in the new place. She says she’s working on it though 😉

WE have the same problem Ani. Last year my humans chucked out the tree because it was on its last legs and they haven’t got a new one yet because the new units we have take up all the room! I hope they come to their senses and get something to put our presents under! Love Roxy xx 🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾
