Spring and the return of the frogs is not always a happy moment… there are horror stories… strange composite creatures lurk in the depths of the pond and a stick is kept within reach for emergencies… as is my younger son who has, on more than one occasion, been obliged to deal with the tragic consequences of the vernal orgy of desperation. Spring is a beautiful season… except when the frogs arrive…

I agree, things can get pretty brutal in the frog pond. We’ll be uncovering ours soon and the orgy will begin again!

We always collected frogspawn and watched the tadpoles and then the tiny frogs appear but as children we were totally unaware of the orgy whcih preceded the frogspawn.

Love you Haiku. Like everyone else, as children, my siblings and I were totally unaware of the frog orgy. We collected the tapoles for bait.

We just collected them to watch them grow. The sad thing is that in a very well stocked pond, few of them will survive.
