The robin that sits on top of my Christmas tree has been with me for over thirty years. He is looking a little past his prime, perhaps, but we know each other. He has watched my children grow, he sat on the branches of their first Christmas tree. This year he is helping to raise £250 for charity via Angela and Hugh. It’s a lovely idea.

I like stars. Weirdly… I am not a fan of angels on top of trees. I have no idea why. I do like the robin though. That is very creative. 🙂

Angels look the wrong shape somehow with the wide skirts… Stars work nicely. I like my little friend though 🙂

Thank you so much for participating in my charity Christmas tree topper challenge, Sue.
This is the first Robin we have seen pearched on top of a Christmas tree and we think he looks right at home up there at the top. At 33 years old, he’s older than my Angel, Angela. A big thank you from both of us for joining in the challenge and helping us on our way to hitting our target by twelfth night.
Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Best wishes,
Hugh

My pleasure, Hugh. I think it is a lovely idea and I hope many more will do so. My little robin is pretty much part of the family.. though the small dog did have to investigate carefully the first time they met 🙂 Merry Christmas to you all!

Ours seems to change every year. For awhile it was an old fashioned santa… but we didn’t really like him.. someone gave him to us. Then my daughter replaced him with a paper star.. but of course, that only lasted about two years before it just disintegrated. This year we topped our tree with the 5-headed dragon god, Tiamat. It’s pretty awesome.

It IS a lovely idea. And your robin is sweeter because of his past. Happy Christmas and New Year!

How unusual and pretty, even if a bit weathered. We have, you guessed it, an angel. She is made of cardboard and lace, not lighted, and has graced the tree for 30+ years – we lost her one year and I fretted until we located her, Great post!

It is odd how attached we get to these symbols of Christmas, isn’t it? As if they are the recipients of memory and continuity.
