I swore this morning when the alarm went off at half past five. Largely because it was in the pocket of the jumper under my coat… which made it awkward to get to with hands cold from the early morning air. So much for the clocks going back and the extra hour we are supposed to get in bed. Still, at least it brought Ani running back to see what was going on and I was able to take her home and get warm again.
The housework was done, the dog fed and walked and the computer had already been on a good while before we had gone out. I still had almost an hour before I had to leave for my morning with my son, while gave me time to work on the new site and finish the latest edit of Dark Sage.
I was still almost late of course, a minor delay chasing Ani held me up. The beauty of it is that my employer is my son. On the downside this means that he, as my son, gets away with saying far more and in a more graphic manner than any other employer could in this litigious day and age. I will not, for example, be suing him for height discrimination or vertical prejudice because he calls me a hobbit whilst referring to his superiority in that department. I, of course being his mother, have a certain edge when it comes to the counter argument as his employee. It makes for an interesting workplace. The relationship dynamics of family carers would repay a doctoral thesis, I believe.
And suddenly not only the day but the weekend is gone, I still have a mountain of stuff to get through and the dog needs feeding and walking again. An hour with Ani who is feeling neglected then back to work. By now it is half past eight and I am yawning and still things I have to get done tonight like it or not. On the face of it, the whole weekend has been like that. Busy.
On the other hand I have spoken with friends, seen autumn colour and kicked through fallen leaves, catching that warm, earthy scent as it rises. I have seen stars before dawn, laughed with my son and run with a happy dog grinning beside me. I have watched hawks fly overhead and rabbits play in the morning light. I have written, created and built, working on things I love for people and ideas I care about. Watched sunrise and sunset and will go to bed knowing I achieved something this weekend. Even the most mundane of days can sparkle if you know where to look.

There’s great truth in your closing statement. Have a beautiful and inspire week ahead.

It’s almost like summer here today, Fransi.. as long as you are wearing a sweater! It was a busy but productive few days 🙂

Yep… me too, though I’ll make an exception for decent stockings on the rare occasion where they are called for.

Ah Sue, that last paragraph is just wonderful and so engaging. I don’t do the changing hour well at all and try to cling onto the hour for as long as I possibly can. This drives everyone in the house mad, except puppy Stan who can’t understand why there should be any change at all in the normal routine and starts banging on the kitchen door at 7am as usual!

Ani is the same… her body clock takes months to notice any difference and while at one end of the year that is no problem, at the other she drags me from bed even earlier than ususal so I sometimes think it is hardly worth going there at all 🙂

Maybe a siesta at 5pm is the answer!
