Dying embers wane;
Pictures form and fade,
A brief existence,
Echoing memory.
Eyes and starlight
Flicker gleams of recognition.
Long ago and tomorrow
Lose their meaning
Riding smoke as dreams.
Old ones whisper
The tales that remain.
Time stands still
As the fire dies.
