I had a nice letter from some friends. They got their two-legs, who is friends with my two-legs, to send some of her festive photographs over… just in the interests of canine solidarity.
They wrote:
It is a trying time for dogs … sometimes even for human people. But on the whole, no one tries to make us wear red antlers, though you’d be surprised how many two-leggeds volunteer to wear big red suits and long white beards. I’ve never understood it, myself, but I’ve never looked my best in a long white beard
Have a wonderful holiday season. Have your two-legged read you the book. I’ve sent you a picture. I’m sure she knows the story!

I have to agree… I try all the time at Christmas, but I don’t always manage to snaffle the turkey. And a white beard does not look good on a dog. And a green one usually means you are in trouble for de-stuffing things again…
Bonnie and Gibbs and The Duke live with Marilyn and Garry Armstrong. Marilyn takes wonderful pictures and posts them on her blog along with articles about all sorts of things, from the dogs and the landscape, to Garry meeting film stars and presidents when he worked in the square box thingy. What I want to know, is, does that mean Garry is like Santa, being able to fit inside lots of small spaces, like Santa does with chimneys, and be everywhere at once every day? Even Santa only has to do it once a year..!
Marilyn has also written a book, The 12-Foot Teepee, which tells about a young woman’s journey to find a future for herself by freeing herself from her past.
I’m not sure what a teepee is but my two legs wishes she could have one too. I think its a kind of two-legs kennel, but I may be wrong about that. I hope I’m not, ’cause my two-legs drinks a lot of tea…

Antlers are for Reindeer!

Dear Ani,
From Bonnie and Gibbs and Duke (the dog who conquered the west), we are hoping we have saved you from the red antlers of awfulness. A teepee is a pointy little house made of the same stuff you chew on, so we’re not sure if your would like it, but ours was very popular with the wild cats who liked living in it and many mice who love tearing up the pillows. Sometimes, there’s a fire inside and not all of us are real happy about fires!
Love from all of us. We haven’t seen a single hint of antlers around here … but humans can be awfly sneeky about stuff like that! We’ll let you know — promise!

Dear Ani,
Please thank your Mom for the lovely missive about all of us here at The spawling Kachingerosa Ranch, deep in the heart of the Blackstone Valley.
Ani, I’m a long time retired (17 years) from life in that square boxy thing. People stll say “I grew up watching you on/in that square boxy thing”. Some of these kind folks are really old. It makes me wonder if I covered Abe Lincoln as a young reporter. Try to remember….
Ani, I hope you are not bearded this holiday season. I have a feeling Duke may wind up with a green beard given his frantic behavior. I hope Duke behaves himself. Santa will be very nice to Duke, Bonnie and Gibbs if they are obedient children. Extra biscuits? Funny you should ask, Ani.
You just never know.
I have a feeling Santa, Rudolph and all the other reindeer will be paying you a special visit, Ani.
