I have to thank Sally Cronin for the idea…..and it is both simple and brilliant. I would never have thought of it! Why not, she suggested, ask if people would use their ‘pinned tweet’ facility on Twitter to support the campaign to raise funds towards the cost of the Mountain Trike, an off-road wheelchair that is self-propelled?
The GoFundMe total is currently at £1265…over a quarter of the total Nick needs to be able to take himself out into the landscape under his own steam… something he has been unable to do since the attack that left him brain injured and unable to walk unaided in 2009.
Nick’s recovery has been remarkable; he focused all his time and energy on it for years… and now he wants to be able to do something with the new life he has earned through such hard work and commitment. On his own blog, he wrote,
” I’m sure you will have heard a similar saying to, “Work to live, not live to work.” I found that in my younger years, I did indeed work to live, solely to help me towards my hopes and dreams. I’m not sure when it happened, but work instead became my life, consuming what had been there before. I forgot why I’d started to work in the first place. The same can be said for my recovery from my brain injury. I’ve lost sight of what I set out to achieve; to be able to live my life to the fullest. Have I made a remarkable recovery to remain in my “external Fortress of Solitude” (a nice house filled with nice things) with no responsibilities or varied challenges? NO!!! I feel like I’m losing myself…
Although I knew how passionately I felt, I didn’t know what to do about it. With my copious free time, I asked myself what I needed and kept an open mind. I realised I need to experience this glorious world, filled with beautiful sights, amazing history and horizon expanding culture; I need to meet awesome people (like the people on here!) and experience their way of life. My independence was stolen from me on 4 July 2009. I’m ready to be reunited with it. Going travelling in a wheelchair (and a walking frame for getting around indoors), I will inevitably be faced with many challenges. Therefore, I will find myself. “
The online community has been magnificent since the page went live, sharing, tweeting, reblogging and leaving comments…as well as donating to the fund. Perhaps you will join Sally and me in pinning a Tweet for Nick?
To pin a Tweet ( also good for book promotion…)
- Open your profile page on Twitter.
- Create your Tweet and link to the campaign using this link: https://www.gofundme.com/NickVerron or to the article on this blog using this link: http://wp.me/p1wss8-8wR
- Add an image to make your Tweet stand out. (You can save and upload any of the campaign images if you wish)
- Publish your Tweet.
- Click the three dots below the Tweet to access the drop-down menu – select ‘Pin to your profile page’. The Tweet will now remain at the top of your profile page until you unpin it or replace it.
Olga Nunez Miret has a youtube video here that explains the pinning process 🙂
You can also, if you wish, tag either Nick or me in your Tweet so Nick can see them!

@SCVincent
Thank you so much for everything you have done to help so far…and thank you to anyone who Pins a Tweet for Nick!

Nick Verron is an inspiration to us all. I have an active imagination but even I cannot fathom the courage and determination that it requires to come back from a traumatic brain injury and accomplish all that Nick has. Now he has a dream and instead of focusing on the dross grabbing headlines in the media…let’s celebrate the achievements of one of our own community and help him get that dream.. I know that when he is able to reach more inaccessible parts of this country and others he will continue to spread his message that you must never give up.. It would be wonderful if you could donate.. but one thing we can all do is use our Twitter to help raise awareness of the campaign.. Please head over to Sue’s post and read more about Nick and the campaign and then Pin a tweet.. thanks Sally
