By Kyle Perkins.
So lately I have heard from a few people that they feel like they should just give up on writing because for whatever reason, they are feeling like it just isn’t worth it anymore. Whether they feel like they aren’t getting enough attention, don’t have enough fans, or whatever the case may be, they are wrong, and here’s why.
Writers and authors have a gift, and because we have that gift, we have an obligation, a responsibility to use it. We may “just” arrange words in such a fashion that people enjoy reading them, but a heart surgeon “just” transplants hearts, and astronauts “just” go to space. We need to stop treating writing like it is simply a hobby that “anyone” can do, because that’s not the case. We “just” take people to places they can’t go on their own, and give them a form of escapism…

Thank you, your post gives me boost I needed to get back to my book which has been gathering dust these past few years… I used to write fictional stories, but my mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and I became her carer, until I reached a stage where my health precluded me from being her carer. Sadly, she died in a nursing home and since that time my fictional works have lost their way… So thanks.

I started writing as my late partner’s carer as a means of release… I stopped when he died… for many years. There is now a small shelf of books with my name on them… it just needs something to kickstart your self-belief again.

I know what you mean. I couldn’t give up writing, for I believe what’s rattling around up top, needs to be written. Rather than give up, switched from fiction to factual writing. One day, I will jump back into action…

If you feel the time is right, then you will. I write mainly now something that is a bit of a mix of both…and other stuff too. What feels right at the time 🙂

Following on from your comments and my thoughts, I have bitten the bullet and created a site dedicated partly to fiction writing. If I don’t start it will die a natural death so to speak… So thanks. https://storiespoetry.wordpress.com

Had to sooner or later. Have a book I started many years ago that needs to be finished, and some of my history articles will be integrated into it. I promised my mother, I would finish that book before she died, and that’s one promise I will keep… Thanks.

No No No. No one should ever give up. i guess it depends on why we write, for me, I love writing and equally love reading. I haven’t written my weekly blog for almost three months but that isn’t to say ideas aren’t there in my head, it’s just getting them down on paper but i could never give up. I believe that if we have the urge to write it will always be there, but as you say we sometimes stop but usually always go back to it at some point or time.

Sometimes life just seems to press pause, but I doubt if any writer ever stops writing, even if the words don’t make it onto a page.

This was an interesting post to read. I do sometimes wonder if all the effort is worth it. (And that’s just writing blog posts! Goodness knows how authors must feel.) It’s good to read something that’s more positive about it all.

Some fine inspiration right there. Let the guage of success be set for maximum personal authenticity. When your utterly sincere there is no such thing as failure.
