There is only one Life.
But there are a dazzling myriad ways in which it finds expression. Life is very simple to define at this symbolic level: it is the animation of matter, such that it exhibits awareness.
The scale of that awareness varies from the most primitive forms of single-celled response to environment all the way up to the conception of the ‘self’ – literally, that there is an “I” which is separate to the place in which it finds ‘itself’.
So-called ‘manifestation’ is simply an entry of the vivifying principle into the world of separateness; and so called ‘enlightenment’ is a (usually) step by step return to the revelation that nothing is actually separated at all…

I really like where this is going. I’ve had reflections like this. Something I realized as you hinted at was the idea that the awareness of that first cell is within us. Could be termed Morphic Resonance perhaps. I remember watching a doco on primordial sea life and had a kind of Epiphany that Gaia had been fashioning us from her dreaming mind but experimenting with every organ as separate life forms first before she decided to put them all together.

That’s a lovely response, Leeby, and I like the ideas in your comment. Gaia is a powerful ‘Archetype’ and probably pretty fed up with some of human behaviour at present! The story continues from the general to the specific, and eventually takes in the nature of the human personality – the source of all our problems; but also the vastness of its potential, one we stop being spiritual infants…

Indeed. Well said. Yes, our inability to realize and take responsibility for our co-creative powers has been so destructive. We are given grace to evolve, but the lease on that grace is not extended indefinitely. If we can’t learn to be better tenants then well be evicted for others who take better care.

I really like the idea of Gaia using lifeforms to experiment with the manifestation of individual organs… I can see how that could work with some of the more primitive, though no less perfect forms.

Thank you. One way I have considered the development of humans is that we are thought forms generated within the dreaming mind of the Earth. Hence the idea from many indigenous traditions that we don’t own the land, the land owns us.

I remember a long conversation with my sons, when they were young teens and came up with a similar theory. I had imagined them and their friends playing computer games in their room…instead they were speculating on the nature of divinity and whether God was just dreaming the universe. I rather liked that idea.
